You cannot spend even a brief moment in nature without experiencing some sort of change. Every time something changes in you, every single time what you see and experience matters. All you have to do is watch!
Snake catching the frog!
Frog, injured yet free!
Today while wandering on tekdi, came across a snake who had just caught a frog.
The hind leg of the frog was well caught by the snake. Tussle above and under the water was very intense. The snake was twisting and turning to get better hold of the frog, while frog was forcing itself out with the two free front legs.
Snake had now dragged the frog the edge of the water body, partly on land. And just in one moment while struggle between both had got intense, frog stopped moving completely, dead. I was anticipating that the snake would now swallow it all.
Out of no where the frog, with a strong jerk, released itself. With a badly injured hind leg, it jumped few hops away from the scene.
What an escape that was!! Honestly speaking at first I was excited to see the episode.
Thoughts struck me hard when it all ended, and then started long sequence of questions!
Who was the victim here, who was unlucky? The frog who escaped injured? The snake that may go hungry for the day?
Was the frog lucky? What will be his life like with a leg injured? -Will it survive at all? Or will live another day to get cured?
Do frogs live their life in fear all the time? Fear of getting caught by a birds, a snake or sometime even a human? How do they deal with this fear.
What gives these wonderful living being the force to fight till the end no matter what, such strong and pure instincts?
How do they face failures and get back again with the same strength day after day, as if every attempt a fresh start?
On lighter note, some silly thoughts too crossed my mind
Does the snake ever make friends? I mean in that little water body you see spot-billed, grebe and moorhens mingle around together. Certainly, frogs and fishes there too get along…what about the snakes?
What do the living ones in the water body, think of us when we throw stones in it? What would I do it someone throw stones at my home? What would I do if someone made loud/annoying noise to disturb peace at my home? Do they too think the same?
I can go on and on thoughtfully reflecting the event, which I did for the whole day today!
Have you spent time like this contemplating the scenes you observe in nature? Do you too get so many questions? What helps you find the answers?
Ah, I know! Ending there with lot of questions! Would love to hear your thoughts!
